This beautifully hand crafted stein, standing 4 feet tall and holding 10.5 gal, impresses with it's incredible detailed work. After carefully forming the stein from a special fine clay found only in one small area of Germany, all details are hand cut by master craftsmen. The stein, which weighs 66 pds, is then dried for 10 weeks. The next step is the delicate hand painting to show off all the designs. After being moved into the kiln, the stein is then burned for 48 hrs at 2500F. Towards the end of the burning process an exact amount of table salt is added to the flames. This then creates the salt glaze, which gives the stein it's unique color and and high polished finish.
The stein actually depicts a Germanic Wedding, most likely that of Siegfried and Krimhielde from the famous Song of the Nibelungs. It is the story of love and intrigue before the times of Charlesmagne and has been made into an opera cycle by Richard Wagner.
